HOW WE WORK

Once a month, each volunteer Cook, whether an individual or member of a Serving Circle team, provides part of:

a family-style meal — an entrée, side, vegetable/salad, dessert

or

a snack pack consisting of a sandwich, apples, salad or crudite and dessert

The volunteer purchases the groceries, prepares the assigned contribution at home and delivers it to a convenient central location.

Each volunteer Cook is a member of a team, headed by a Team Leader who is responsible for making sure the team’s meal is delivered on their assigned day of the month. Community Cooks provides support and flexibility to ensure that the volunteer experience is easy and satisfying. As a result, many of our Cooks have participated in this program for 5, 10 or even 20 years.

JOIN US!

As the underserved populations in our communities continue to grow, so does the need to provide food for the direct-service agencies that support them. These partner agencies are facing budget cuts that affect their ability to provide the “extras” such as food.

Here are different ways you can help:

INDIVIDUAL COOK

Sign up and we’ll assign you to a team of 5-10 like-minded neighbors. Each team member provides a part of a meal…main meat dish, side pasta/grain, vegetable/salad, dessert/fruit.

FAMILY/FRIEND TEAM

If you have a group of family members, friends or dorm mates who want to form a team, we’ll find out what works for you and match you with a partner agency.

SERVING CIRCLE

Galvanize your workplace by organizing your colleagues to form a team. Each meal will provide much needed food support and help build a spirit of community service.

CCOOKS ON THE GRID

Are you located out of our geographic area but interested in adopting our simple model of helping your neighbors in need? Become a Community Cooks chapter. We can offer you a Starter Kit with guidelines, templates and tips. We can also work with you to identify and connect with a community agency.

Just remember…all that’s needed is one dish once a month to help a neighbor in need.

Join us! Contact volunteer@ccooks.org for more information on any of the above opportunities.
